Earlier, when a visa was issued, the U.S. Consulate, Chennai used to retain the Consulate copy of the HDFC receipt. Recently we have received many calls from visa applicants expressing concern that U.S. Consulate, Chennai did not retain the Consulate’s copy of the HDFC receipt and returned both the embassy copy (with yellow barcode) and applicant copy (with white barcode) of HDFC receipt after the visa is approved. We understand that the consulate does not retain the embassy copy of HDFC receipt anymore. All our readers and visa applicants at U.S. Consulate, Chennai are requested to take note of this change in procedure and have nothing to worry if you still have both receipts after the visa is approved.

However, it is important that visa applicants carry both the HDFC receipts while attending the visa interview. Applicants will not be permitted to enter the Consulate without the original Consular copy of the HDFC receipt.
