At the time of scheduling a visa appointment to the U.S., the visa applicant has a choice of opting for premium delivery of passport to the person’s home address (if serviceable) or to pick up the passport from one of the document / passport collection centers.

If the applicant has opted for document pick-up, then she/he needs to carry a government-issued photo ID to collect the documents. One of the following documents is generally accepted:

By Applicant

  • Passport biographic information page;
  • Voter ID;
  • PAN card;
  • Driver’s license; or
  • Aadhar card.

By Representative:

In addition to one of the above items of the visa applicant, the representative should carry an original authorization letter. This letter should include:

  • Representative’s full name as listed on the government-issued photo ID;
  • Applicant’s name and passport number;
  • If visa applicant’s spouse is collecting documents, one of the above documents is required;
  • Children below 18 years of age are not permitted to collect the passport either for themselves or for others. For any representative to collect the passport on behalf of an applicant below 18 years of age, an original letter signed by one of the parents is mandatory.

It is important to note that a government employment ID card is not accepted.

We advise applicants and their representatives to check for the latest requirements by visiting the official visa information websiteprior to taking any action.
