In the November, 2015 edition of MurthyIndiaBulletin, we reported on new criteria for visa interview waiver  program (IWP). Non-immigrant visa applicants, eligible for IWP program should generally plan to submit their application from one of the document collection centers located within the jurisdiction of respective U.S. Embassy / Consulate. However, if for some reason, the applicant is located at a place outside the jurisdiction of U.S. Embassy / Consulate that will process one’s application, s/he can still submit the application through his/her nearest drop-box location. In such circumstances, applicant(s) should be careful to choose the right consulate on form DS160 and while completing and submitting  information to generate drop-box letter online. At the drop-box center, applicant(s) should ensure that, VAC personnel understands consular post to which the documents need to be forwarded. Though drop-box letter indicates that all applications should be submitted within jurisdiction of U.S. Embassy / Consulate where non-immigrant visa is to be processed, staff at MISPL have re-confirmed over phone with help desk that one can make a special request for application(s) to be sent to a post outside the jurisdiction of drop-box location. At their discretion, the Visa Application Center (VAC) Officials may oblige. This option may be sought if there is an urgency.
