Effective May 31, 2019, all U.S. Non-Immigrant applicants need to provide information about certain social media s/he has used in the past 5 years. As of this writing, the additional social media related questionnaire lists the following social media platforms: ask.fm, Douban, Facebook, Flickr, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIN, MySpace, Pinterest, QZone (QQ), Reddit, Sina Weibo, Tencent Weibo, Tumblr, Twitter, Twoo, Vine, Vkontakte (VK), Youku and YouTube.

In addition to providing the social media platform used, s/he needs to provide the username / handle / screenname or other identifiers associated with the applicant’s social media profile. If one has more than one social media handle, then, s/he needs to list all the usernames, handles, screennames or other identifiers used by the applicant. To do this, s/he needs to use the “Add another” option and choose the social media platform again and list the additional identifies.

We have always urged applicants to be very honest and transparent with the application. Any misleading or conflicting information provided on the social media platform could trigger additional scrutiny and could end up in potential ineligibility. It is important to use the social media platform wisely.
