COVID-19: Impact on U.S. Visa Applicants in India

  • March 26, 2020
150 150 Murthy Immigration Services

The unprecedented pandemic has literally brought the world to a stand-still. With the challenges on all of us, we at MISPL want to continue to take good care of all our clients, while ensuring the safety and care for all. We have enabled our office to function 100% remotely. We continue to offer our services to clients making full use of the technological advancements. This includes phone, email, Skype video consultations and phone consulting sessions to ensure both immigrant and non-immigrant visa applicants are prepared to file their application as soon as consular services resume in India or at any other consular posts around the world.

It is best to be ahead of the line with preparing your paperwork ahead since there will be a backlog when U.S. consulates reopen around the world. We look forward to continuing to take good care of you, your families and your friends in this climate.

All Visa Services Cancelled in India with some Exceptions

As reported earlier, all the consular posts in India cancelled all the appointments as of March 16, 2020. Subsequently, the drop box and document collection services through the visa application centres were also suspended. We will continue to monitor and update if any of the services resume.

The consular posts in India continue to provide certain services for U.S. citizens and emergency appointments for non-immigrant visa applicants. The definition on what situation can be included as an “emergency” is not fully clear as of this writing . When we get additional information, we will share it with our valued MISPL readers.

Validity of Visa Application Fee

As our readers already know, the Machine Readable Visa (MRV) is valid for one year from the date of payment. We are trying to obtain a clarification from the consular section to find out if an applicant who has paid the visa application fee earlier and is nearing the one year period, would be given any extension of validity based on the COVID-19 lockdown.

We urge each of you to stay safe and just hang in there. We look forward to continuing to guide and help you through these difficult times. We can be reached on info@murthyindia.com and +91.44.4003.5600.
