Consulates in India adjust exchange rates with effect from
August 7, 2006

The US Consulates in India have adjusted the exchange rate as
Rs. 48 to one US$. Effectively, the nonimmigrant visa application fee will be
Rs. 4,800 and the nonimmigrant visa issuance fee will be Rs. 2,400. The VFS
service fee of Rs. 281 per passport remains the same.
Previously exchange rate was Rs. 46
to a US$ and hence the nonimmigrant visa application fee was Rs.
4,600 and the nonimmigrant visa issuance fee was Rs. 2,300.

A notification on the consular
website indicates that persons who have already paid the visa
application fee at one of the designated HDFC banks prior to
August 7 2006 need not pay the difference of Rs. 200.
Another notification on the VFS website indicates that
applicants applying for visas at consulates in Delhi, Kolkatta
and Chennai will have to carry one demand draft for Rs. 2,400
towards the visa issuance fee. The Consulate in Mumbai allows
applicants to pay the difference of Rs. 100 by way of demand
draft if the applicant has submitted the demand draft towards
the visa issuance fee in advance to VFS.
This change in exchange rate also affects the fee payable for
immigrant visas. The fees with the new exchange rate are as
follows:
