In a recent development the US Embassy, New Delhi has announced
that English speaking Nonimmigrant Visa applicants could apply
for their visa from either US Embassy in New Delhi or US
consulates in Mumbai or Chennai. Applicants should use the VFS (http://www.vfs-usa.co.in)
website to schedule the appointment. This applies only for
applicants who are very fluent in English and who have not been
previously refused a visa.
After you select your current ‘State of Residence’ where you
have been residing for the past six months or longer you will be
able to see calendars offering dates at more than one Consular
post. The update clearly indicates that if you are a fluent
English speaker and have not been previously refused a visa, you
may select an interview date from any post shown. Further, if
you are not fluent in English or were previously denied a visa,
you must select a date only from the post covering the area
where you reside. Applicants denied a visa can only seek to have
the decision reviewed by reapplying at the post where the denial
occurred.
Please note that if you do not
fulfill the criteria, please abstain from choosing a different
post. This will adversely affect decision on your application.
